Okay, so I’ve been wanting to switch up my hair for a while now. I’ve had the same dark black hair for like, ever, and I was getting kinda bored. I saw this trend of black hair with blonde highlights and thought, “Ooh, that looks cool!” So, I decided to give it a shot.

First, I gathered my supplies. This was a whole process in itself. I needed:
- Bleach (obviously!)
- Developer (the stuff that mixes with the bleach)
- Toner (to get rid of brassy tones)
- Gloves (didn’t want stained hands!)
- A mixing bowl and brush
- Foils (to separate the highlighted sections)
- A good conditioner
The Messy Part (aka Bleaching)
I sectioned my hair, which was a bit tricky since my hair is super thick. Then I used my hands to apply the bleach mixture to the strands I wanted to highlight. I choose to make random areas of the hair get highlighted, so, I grabbed different strands, and that was a time consuming work.
I carefully wrapped each section in foil and I set a timer. This part made me super nervous. I didn’t want to fry my hair! I kept checking it every few minutes to see how it was lifting.
The Waiting Game
This was the hardest part, sitting there with bleach on my head, smelling chemicals, and just hoping for the best. I watched some YouTube videos to distract myself.
Rinsing and Toning
After what felt like forever, I rinsed out the bleach. My hair felt a little straw-like, but thankfully not totally fried. Then, I applied the toner, following the instructions on the bottle. This helps to take away any of the yellowish, brassy color that the bleach can leave behind.

The Big Reveal!
I rinsed out the toner, conditioned my hair like crazy, and then finally… I got to see the results! It was actually pretty good! The blonde highlights were definitely there, and they looked pretty cool against my dark hair. I added a bit of hair oil, so it can look better.
So, I am happy with my new look, and I think I need to buy a lot of new products to keep this hair healthy, and also, I should go to saloon regularly to keep this blonde in good condition. But, I really like my hair right now.
