Alright, let me tell you about this street fashion bag I just made. It was a whole process, let me tell ya!

First off, I got inspired seeing all these cool bags people were rocking downtown. They weren’t your typical designer bags, you know? More like unique, kinda DIY-looking stuff. So, I was like, “I can totally do that!”
So, the first thing I did was hit up the local thrift store. I wanted something with character. After digging through piles of old clothes and whatnot, I found this old denim jacket. It was a little beat up, but the denim was a great wash, and it had these cool pockets. I thought, “Bingo!” This is gonna be the base of my bag.
Next, I grabbed my scissors and started cutting up the jacket. I carefully cut off the sleeves, the collar, and basically deconstructed the whole thing. It felt kinda sacrilegious cutting up a perfectly good jacket, but hey, gotta commit to the vision, right?
Once I had all the denim pieces, I started laying them out to figure out the bag’s shape and size. I wanted something big enough to carry my essentials – phone, wallet, keys, maybe a book. After a bit of fiddling around, I settled on a tote bag style. Nothing too fancy.
Then came the sewing. Now, I’m no expert sewer, let me tell you. My sewing machine is pretty basic, and my skills are… well, let’s just say they’re improving. I started by sewing the main body of the bag together, using the jacket’s back panel as the front. The pockets were still there, which was perfect!

After that, I needed a lining. I rummaged through my fabric stash and found this old band t-shirt. It was a little faded, but the graphic was cool, and it would give the bag a little extra personality. I cut it up and sewed it into the inside of the bag. It was a bit tricky getting everything lined up properly, but I managed.
Next up were the straps. I used some extra denim from the jacket sleeves and sewed them into long, sturdy straps. I reinforced them a bunch of times because I didn’t want them breaking on me when I was out and about.
Finally, I added some finishing touches. I found some cool metal studs and attached them to the pockets for a little extra edge. I also added a key clip inside so I wouldn’t have to dig around for my keys all the time.
And that’s it! My street fashion bag was born. It’s not perfect, by any means. You can definitely see some of my dodgy stitching in places. But it’s unique, it’s functional, and it’s totally me. Plus, I recycled an old jacket, so that’s a win for the environment, right?
I’ve been rocking it for a few weeks now, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it. People are always asking me where I got it, and I get to proudly say, “I made it myself!”

Honestly, this whole project was a blast. It was a chance to get creative, learn some new skills (or at least improve my existing ones), and end up with something totally one-of-a-kind. I’m already thinking about what I’m gonna make next!
