Okay, here’s my story about making a slouchy brown suede bag:
So, I’ve been seeing these brown suede bags everywhere lately. You know, the ones that look kinda fancy but also super chill? Yeah, those. The big fashion houses like Prada and Saint Laurent are all over them. I saw one in a shop window the other day, and I just knew I had to have one. But, man, those designer prices? I hopped in my car and drove to the fabric store, not the fancy one downtown, but the slightly dodgy one in the industrial park that always has good deals, yeah, you know the kind. I rummaged through their remnants bin – a goldmine, let me tell you – and boom! Found a gorgeous piece of chocolate brown suede. It was soft, it was slouchy, it was perfect. And the best part? It was cheap!
Next up, the pattern. I’m no sewing whiz, so I searched online and found something simple, a basic hobo bag shape, nothing too complicated. I printed that bad boy out, taped it together, and it was game on.
Getting Down to Business
- Cutting the suede: This was a bit nerve-wracking. Suede is not the easiest thing to cut, and I didn’t want to mess it up. I took a deep breath, used my sharpest fabric scissors, and went for it. Slow and steady, that’s the key.
- Sewing the pieces together: Okay, this is where things got interesting. I dusted off my old sewing machine – a hand-me-down from my grandma – and got to work. Let’s just say there was a lot of seam ripping and re-sewing involved. Suede is thick, and my machine was not happy. But I persevered!
- Adding the lining: I wanted something fun and unexpected for the lining, so I used some leftover floral fabric I had. It’s a nice little surprise every time I open the bag.
- The strap: This was the trickiest part. I wanted a long, adjustable strap, so I used some extra suede and some metal hardware I found at the craft store. It took a few tries to get it right, but I finally figured it out.
