Baby pink lips: How? So easy!

by Adelaide Davy

Alright, so let’s talk about getting those lips to look a bit more, you know, naturally pink and healthy. Not talking about some magic lipstick here, just what I actually did to get mine looking less like prunes and more like… well, younger lips, I guess. It wasn’t an overnight thing, lemme tell ya.

Baby pink lips: How? So easy!

My Starting Point: Not Great, Bob!

Honestly, I looked in the mirror one day a while back and just thought, “Ugh.” My lips were always dry, kinda dull, and definitely not the rosy color I remembered from years ago. It was probably a mix of things – not drinking enough water, the weather, maybe just getting older, who knows? I was also going through a phase of trying to declutter my entire house, which was stressing me out more than it was helping, and I think my self-care just went out the window. I was just grabbing whatever lip balm was cheapest and wondering why nothing worked.

Kicking Things Off: The Scrub Down

So, the first thing I figured I had to do was get rid of all that flaky, dead skin. It’s common sense, right? But I wasn’t about to buy some fancy, expensive scrub.

  • I made my own: I just took some regular white sugar from the kitchen, maybe a teaspoon, and mixed it with a little bit of honey. Sometimes I’d use a tiny bit of coconut oil if I had it. Nothing precise, just enough to make a paste.
  • How I did it: Gently, and I mean gently, I’d rub this mix on my lips in little circles for maybe 30 seconds. Then just rinse it off with warm water. I started doing this maybe twice a week. Any more and I felt like I was just irritating them.

Next Up: Serious Hydration

Once the scrubbing was done, or on days I wasn’t scrubbing, moisture was key. This is where I think I used to go wrong, just using any old chapstick.

I started being more particular. I looked for a really plain, good quality lip balm. The kind without a ton of flavors or colors. Vaseline works too, honestly. The trick for me was applying it all the time. Seriously. After I ate, after I drank, before I went outside, and most importantly, a thick layer right before bed. I’d wake up and my lips would still feel soft.

Breaking Bad Habits (Mine, Anyway)

This was a tough one. I realized I was a chronic lip licker. And sometimes a biter when I was stressed. Both are terrible for your lips, dries them out like crazy.

I had to consciously stop. Every time I caught myself, I’d make myself apply balm instead. It took a while, like breaking any habit, but it made a difference. I also made a real effort to drink more water throughout the day. Sounds basic, but if you’re dehydrated, your lips will show it.

What Else? Oh Yeah, Protection!

I also started thinking about the sun. If it can damage your skin, it can damage your lips. So, if I knew I was going to be out in the sun for a while, I’d try to use a balm that had some SPF in it. Not always, but I tried to be more mindful.

The Results & A Bit of a Ramble

So, did I get “baby pink lips” overnight? Nope. Not a chance. It took weeks, maybe even a couple of months of being pretty consistent, to really see a lasting difference. They got smoother first, then gradually, the color seemed to even out and look healthier, more naturally pinkish.

It’s funny, this whole lip journey. It reminds me of when I was trying to get my garden to grow a few years back. I bought all these expensive fertilizers and fancy tools, read all the complicated books. And nothing much happened. Then my neighbor, old Mrs. Gable, she just told me, “Dear, it just needs good soil, regular water, and sunshine. Don’t overthink it.” And darn it if she wasn’t right. I’d been so focused on the “quick fixes” and fancy stuff that I missed the basics. Same with my lips. All these expensive treatments I’d seen advertised, and what really worked was just consistent, simple care. No miracle product, just a bit of effort and patience. Sometimes the simplest way is actually the best way, you know?

So yeah, that was my process. Nothing groundbreaking, just what worked for me. Maybe it’ll give you some ideas if you’re looking to do the same.
