Okay, so today I wanna share my little project about making a cloak coat. Yeah, I know, it sounds a bit old-fashioned, but trust me, it’s pretty cool.

First, I got this idea stuck in my head that I needed a cloak. Don’t ask me why, I just did. But not just any cloak, I wanted something that could also work as a coat. You know, something practical but with that dramatic flair. So, I started by looking up some stuff online. Found out that cloaks are basically big pieces of fabric without sleeves, and coats, well, they have sleeves. Simple enough, right?
Then I dug a little deeper. Learned that cloaks have been around for ages. People used them to keep warm and dry, and sometimes they were a status symbol, which is kind of neat. I figured, if it was good enough for people back then, it’s good enough for me.
My process
- Gathered some fabric. I went with a thick wool blend because I wanted it to be warm.
- Measured myself and cut the fabric into a big half-circle for the cloak part. I’m not gonna lie, cutting that huge piece was a bit intimidating.
- For the coat part, I drafted a simple pattern for sleeves and attached them to the cloak. This was the trickiest part because I wanted it to look seamless.
- Sewed everything together. I had to do it by hand because my sewing machine decided to quit on me. Took forever, but it was kind of therapeutic, in a way.
- Finally, I added a hood and a clasp at the front to keep it closed. That’s what makes the coat aspect! I want to protect myself from the wind and rain.
The whole thing took me about a week, working on and off. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of myself. I wore it out the other day, and it was surprisingly warm. Plus, I felt like I was in one of those historical dramas, which was a bonus.
So, yeah, that’s my cloak coat story. It was a fun little project, and now I have a unique piece of clothing that’s both practical and stylish, at least in my opinion. If you’re into this kind of stuff, I’d say give it a try. It’s definitely a conversation starter!
