I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I recently got my hands on this Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze. Let me tell you, it’s been quite a ride.
First off, I started by doing some digging online. Bronze watches are cool and all, but they ain’t like your regular stainless steel. Turns out, bronze is a mix of copper and tin. Now, copper is kinda soft, and tin is brittle, but you put ’em together, and bam! You get something that holds its shape pretty well. Plus, it doesn’t mess with magnets, which is neat.
Then I found out that people use bronze for boat stuff a lot because it doesn’t rust easily in seawater. So, it makes sense to use it for dive watches, right? It’s tough and can take a beating from daily wear.
But here’s the kicker – when bronze meets air and moisture, and you wear it for a bit, it starts to change. It gets this… patina, I guess you’d call it. Some folks dig it, some don’t. Personally, I think it gives the watch some character.
I also did some reading about the movement inside this thing, the Miyota 9035. Some people love it, some have had issues. I guess it’s a bit of a mixed bag. But from what I gathered, Baltic seems to use these movements in their higher-end stuff.
After wearing it for a few weeks, I gotta say, it’s a solid watch. It’s not like, top-tier luxury, but it looks good, feels good on the wrist, and the movement seems to be doing its job just fine. It’s well made. I’m happy with it.
I even remembered seeing a discussion online where someone mentioned they had the blue and gold version but swapped it for the black and silver one. Maybe I’ll check that one out someday.
So, at the end of the day, I feel like Baltic did a pretty good job with this Aquascaphe Bronze. Is it worth the money? I’d say yeah. It’s a unique piece, and it’s been fun seeing how the bronze changes over time. And I think that it’s well worth the money I spent.
