Signs Jane Com Was Going Out of Business Before It Closed

by Doreen Robbins

When I First Noticed Something Was Off

It started when I tried buying my sister’s birthday gift last February. Their usual 3-day shipping took over two weeks. I called customer service five times – each wait was longer than the last. The fifth call actually disconnected after 45 minutes on hold. That never happened before.

Then I saw weird stuff on their website:

  • Repeat deals every week – same jewelry, same home goods for months
  • Sold out tags stayed on products weeks after they disappeared
  • New vendors stopped appearing since Christmas season

I actually tweeted asking if they had technical issues. Got canned responses like “We appreciate your patience!” with zero real answers.

The Weird Vendor Situation

My neighbor sold handmade candles through Jane since 2020. In March, she showed me her vendor dashboard – payouts were delayed by 60+ days. When she emailed finance, auto-replies just said “processing delays.” No human ever replied.

She pulled all her products out by April. Saw three other small biz owners in local Facebook groups complaining about the same payment black hole. That’s when I started screenshotting everything.

The Final Red Flags

Around June, my coupon codes stopped working. Not like “expired” errors – the whole promo page 404’d. Checked Wayback Machine – saw they hadn’t updated that section since January.

Tried contacting support again in July:

  • Phone line dead – just beeping forever
  • Chat bot looped “agents will reply in 24h” for 5 days
  • Social media comments flooded with “WHERE’S MY ORDER?” posts

I’d refreshed their job openings page weekly out of curiosity. From May onward, every posting vanished – even basic warehouse roles disappeared.

My Last Order Disaster

On August 3rd, I gambled on a $10 necklace just to test things. Charge hit my card immediately. Got an order confirmation… then nothing for three weeks.

When I finally disputed the charge, my account got locked within hours. Couldn’t login at all. Called my bank – they said Jane disputes had spiked 300% that month.

The site went dark completely two weeks later. Zero warning. My neighbor never got her last $1,200 payout. Still tells everyone “If vendors aren’t getting paid, run.”
