So today I decided to tackle that age-old question about Ross – what can you actually find at their NYC locations? Grabbed my reusable shopping bags and subway card, headed down to the Roosevelt Avenue location in Queens around 10 AM right after they opened.
The Treasure Hunt Begins
Walked into complete chaos – clothes stacked everywhere, carts blocking aisles, people digging through piles like they’re mining for gold. Started by the home goods section because that’s usually the jackpot spot. Took me a solid 20 minutes just to sort through those shelves, checking for damage and feeling fabric quality.
Then moved to the footwear corner near the back. Found myself knee-deep in shoeboxes, opening one after another while dodging other shoppers. By the time I hit the accessories racks, my shoulders were covered in that weird store dust that always floats around discount shops.
Top 5 Finds After Two Hours
After circling back twice to double-check prices and stock, these five items were the absolute winners:
- Levi’s Denim Jacket ($25) – Found this tucked between frumpy blazers. The sizing was all weird but I kept digging until I uncovered a medium that actually fit.
- Instant Pot Duo Mini ($32) – Saw three people fighting over slow cookers nearby. Grabbed this unopened return without even checking the price tag first – big win.
- Nike Running Shoes ($35) – Had to try seven different boxes to find matching pairs that weren’t damaged. Worth the struggle though.
- Michael Kors Tote ($28) – Nearly got knocked over grabbing this from the “just rolled out” cart. Minor scuff on the bottom but that’ll buff right out.
- Cast Iron Skillet ($18) – This thing weighs a ton! Almost didn’t buy it because carrying it back on the train sounded awful. Then remembered my grandma would disown me for passing up cast iron at that price.
The Aftermath
Checked out sweating like I’d run a marathon. Lady at the register cracked up about my armful of mismatched treasures. Lugged everything home on the 7 train – nearly dropped the skillet on someone’s foot when we hit a bump.
Will I do this again next week? Probably. My back’s killing me and I’ve got blisters from trying on shoes, but those deals? Can’t find those prices anywhere in this city. You just gotta be willing to fight for them.
