How to change your name in New World – simple guide for beginners.

by Meredith Sassoon

Alright so I finally got around to trying out that name change feature in New World after my friend kept laughing at my terrible character name. Figured I’d share exactly how I messed around with it step by step.

How to change your name in New World – simple guide for beginners.

Starting the whole thing

First I logged into the game like normal and opened up the store page. Almost bought a skin by accident cause the button layouts are kinda confusing. Anyway scrolled down and found a section called “Character Services”. Took me a hot minute to spot it honestly.

What happened in the menu

Clicked on that Character Services tab and saw a little tile named “Rename Token”. Thought it would be free but nope – costs 1,000 Marks of Fortune. Went to check my wallet balance and had exactly 850. Classic. So off I went doing random faction missions for like 20 minutes until I scraped together enough.

  • Bought token
  • Prompt disappeared immediately – freaked out
  • Checked inventory – token sitting in Misc category
  • Right-clicked token in inventory

The actual name swap

A pop-up window showed my current cringey name “PoopSockLvl45” with a blank box under it. Typed in “GigachadTank” and got an error – apparently numbers aren’t allowed? Tried “GigachadTheTank” and it worked. Hit confirm and got kicked to character select screen. Nearly had a heart attack thinking I broke my account.

Relogged and boom – my dude was renamed! Only weird thing was all my friends got spammed with “PoopSockLvl45 is now GigachadTheTank” notifications. Buddy died laughing during a siege because of it. Mission accomplished!
