How I Figured Out This Outfit Step by Step
So last Tuesday I really wanted to wear my purple tulle skirt but kept staring at it feeling clueless. That poofy thing just sat in my closet mocking me for months.

First I grabbed a random graphic tee – total disaster. Looked like I forgot pants AND forgot how to dress. Super frumpy and weird. Tried baggy sweaters next but nope, swallowed my whole body.
Finally pulled out that blue button-down shirt from work. Rolled sleeves up to elbows real messy, left three buttons undone at top. Tucked only the front part loosely so skirt waistband showed.
The magic happened when I threw on this wide brown belt. Cinched right between shirt and skirt poof? Chef’s kiss. Found old high-top sneakers for balance – heels would’ve been too princessy.
What Actually Worked in the End
- Used regular work shirt but messed it up good – wrinkles, uneven tuck, floppy collar
- Chose chunky jewelry to distract from floof overload: big hoop earrings and leather cuff
- Picked structured bag on purpose so the whole look didn’t float away
- Kept makeup simple dirty eye makeup so people look at clothes not my face
Biggest surprise? That dumb fanny pack my sister mocked me for buying last summer. Wore it crossbody style cutting across the puff – somehow made the whole thing look cooler than it should.
Took mirror selfies from all angles. Back view looked like deflated balloon but front and side? Actually decent. Walked to grocery store and got three compliments so calling that a win.
