Alright, so I finally got around to trying out that CorePower Strength X class everyone’s been talking about. Or at least, some people are. I figured, why not? Needed to shake things up a bit with my usual routine, which was getting stale, if I’m being honest.
So, I booked a spot. Walked into the studio, and it was pretty much what you’d expect. Dim lights, music already thumping. You know the vibe. I found a spot, grabbed the weights they suggested. They had a few options, and I probably should’ve gone lighter, but hey, ego, right?
Getting Into It
The instructor started us off with a warm-up. Some dynamic stretches, getting the blood flowing. Nothing too crazy. I was thinking, “Okay, this isn’t so bad.” Famous last words, as they say. Because then the actual “strength” part kicked in, and boy, did it kick.
We moved pretty quickly from one thing to the next. Lots of compound movements. Think squats with overhead presses, lunges with bicep curls, that sort of thing. My muscles started talking to me pretty early on. Not in a friendly way, either. More like a loud, insistent complaint.
There was a lot of focus on using weights, which I liked. But it wasn’t just about lifting heavy. It was about control, and the pace. The instructor kept shouting encouragement, or maybe just instructions, it was hard to tell over my own heavy breathing. I tried to keep up with the person next to me, who looked like they did this in their sleep. Bad idea. Focus on your own mat, that’s my new motto.
Some of the sequences were brutal. I remember one part involving what felt like a million plank variations combined with dumbbell rows. My core was on fire. And my shoulders? They were just about ready to pack their bags and leave. I definitely modified a few things towards the end of those sets. No shame in that, I told myself. Better to modify than to just flop on the floor like a fish, though I was tempted.

The Aftermath and Thoughts
By the time we got to the cool-down, I was drenched. Absolutely dripping. I stumbled out of there feeling like I’d wrestled a bear. A very strong, persistent bear. My arms felt like noodles. Good noodles, maybe? Cooked al dente?
The next day was the real test. Oh boy.
- Getting out of bed felt like an Olympic event.
- Stairs were suddenly my arch-nemesis. Each step was a decision.
- Even lifting my coffee cup seemed to require extra effort.
But here’s the thing. Despite the soreness, which was pretty significant, I also felt… good. Accomplished. Like I’d actually worked my body hard. It wasn’t just going through the motions. This Strength X thing, it pushed me. For real.
So, was it worth it? Yeah, I think so. It’s not something I’d do every single day, my body would probably file a formal complaint. But as a way to really challenge myself and build some serious strength, it definitely delivered. I learned that I could push harder than I thought, even if I was groaning internally (and sometimes externally) the whole time. If you’re looking for a tough, no-nonsense weighted workout, this might be your jam. Just, you know, maybe start with the lighter weights first. Trust me on that one.
