Alright, let’s talk about this hair thing I did. I got it in my head that I needed to shake things up a bit, you know? Staring at the same old look day after day gets boring. So, I decided I’d actually try out a bunch of different hairstyles. The goal was something like 15 styles, just to see what worked and what was a total flop on me.

Getting Started
First off, I had to let my hair grow out just a little bit, give myself something to work with. Wasn’t aiming for Rapunzel, just enough length for options. Then I spent an evening just scrolling through pictures online, saving a few that looked doable. Didn’t want anything needing a professional stylist, just stuff I could realistically try myself in my own bathroom mirror.
I gathered up all my tools. Found my old hairdryer, the straightener, that curling wand I bought ages ago and barely used. Dug out all the hair ties, bobby pins, and that one can of hairspray lurking in the back of the cabinet.
The Trying-Out Phase
Okay, so the actual process. I started simple. Like, really simple.
- Day 1: Changed my part. Seriously. Moved it from the usual spot way over to the side. Felt weird at first, but okay, style number one, check.
- Day 2-3: Ponytails. Tried a high one, felt a bit severe. Then a low one at the nape of my neck, more relaxed. Then a side ponytail, felt a bit young, but hey, it was different.
- Day 4-6: Braids. Started with a basic three-strand braid down my back. Easy peasy. Then I attempted a French braid. Okay, this took concentration. My arms started aching holding them up like that. Watched a quick tutorial, tried again. Got something resembling a French braid. Progress! Then I tackled the fishtail. That was fiddly. Took a few attempts before it didn’t look like a complete mess. Definitely needed patience for that one.
- Day 7-9: Buns. The classic messy bun, which is honestly my default lazy look, but I tried to make it look intentionally messy, you know? Then a sleeker, tighter bun. Used about a million pins for that one. Also tried a top knot right on top of my head.
- Day 10-12: Using the tools. I fired up the straighteners one day, got my hair super smooth and straight. Felt very different. Then the next day, I braved the curling wand. Tried some loose waves. Managed not to burn myself too badly. Added a bit of volume, which was nice.
- Day 13-15: Playing around more. Tried pinning the front sections back. Did a half-up, half-down thing. Even tried twisting sections and pinning them into a sort of updo. Looked alright from the front, probably a disaster zone at the back, but who cares, I was experimenting!
What I Reckon Now
So, going through all these styles was… an experience. Some were surprisingly easy, others were just not worth the hassle for me personally. The super sleek straight look? Took ages. The intricate braids? My arms aren’t built for that kind of sustained effort. But it was good fun, honestly. Made me look at my hair differently.
I found that a couple of variations on the low bun and some simple pinned-back styles actually looked pretty decent and didn’t take forever. The messy bun remains the undefeated champion for sheer speed and comfort, let’s be real. Did I hit exactly 15? Probably around that number, maybe a couple more if you count slight variations. It wasn’t about the exact number, more about just doing it. Trying something new. And yeah, I guess I learned I can do more with my hair, but I also reaffirmed my love for styles that take under five minutes. Worth doing, though. Definitely broke me out of my hair rut for a bit.
