Alright, let’s talk about this whole nike orange and grey thing I got caught up in recently. It started simply enough, really. I was just scrolling online, looking for some new sneakers. Needed something comfortable, you know, for just kicking around.

Saw a pair, these Nikes, sharp looking. Mainly grey, but with this bright orange swoosh and some highlights. Caught my eye immediately. Thought, “Yeah, those look pretty good.” Decided I wanted them.
The Hunt Begins
So, the next day, I figured I’d pop into a couple of shops. Went downtown first. Walked into the big sports store. Asked the kid working there. He checked the computer. “Nah, mate, don’t have that colourway. Got blue? Black?” Nope. Had my mind set on the orange and grey.
Tried another smaller place I know. Same story. They had plenty of Nikes, just not those Nikes. Starting to get a bit annoying, you know? It’s like when you get a specific craving for something, and nothing else will do.
So, I got home, figured online was the way to go. Started searching. Found them alright, but here’s the kicker:
- Either completely sold out in my size.
- Or listed on some reseller site for like, double the price.
- Or only available from some sketchy looking international site I’d never heard of.
Really ground my gears. Why make something look so good in the pictures if you can’t actually buy it without jumping through hoops or paying a fortune? It reminded me of this project I did a few years back. Needed a very specific part, a certain type of relay with particular specs. Couldn’t find it anywhere locally.

A Little Trip Down Memory Lane
Back then, just like with these shoes, I spent days calling suppliers, searching old catalogues, even driving out to industrial parks hoping someone might have old stock. Everyone told me, “Oh, they don’t make that exact one anymore. Here’s the replacement.” But the replacement wouldn’t quite fit the housing I’d already built. Typical.
Ended up finding it purely by chance. Was clearing out some old boxes from a previous job site I’d stored in the garage. Lo and behold, tucked away in a corner, was the exact relay I needed. Still in its original packaging. Must have been sitting there for years.
Felt like striking gold. All that searching, frustration, and the solution was right under my nose the whole time. Sometimes you just gotta stop looking so hard, I guess. Or maybe just be lucky.
Anyway, back to the shoes. Still haven’t got my hands on those nike orange and grey ones. Maybe I’ll find them eventually, maybe not. Perhaps I’ll stumble upon them when I least expect it, like that relay. Or maybe I’ll just give up and get the blue ones. We’ll see.
