Alright, so check it, today I’m gonna walk you through this crazy project I cooked up: “post malone velociraptor.” Don’t ask me why, just roll with it.
First, the Idea Hit Me
It all started with a late-night YouTube binge, you know how it goes. Post Malone music videos, Jurassic Park clips… and BAM! It hit me. I NEEDED to combine them. A velociraptor… dressed as Post Malone. Why not?
Gathering the Gear
Okay, so first thing’s first: sourcing the assets. I went hunting online. Needed a decent 3D model of a velociraptor. Found one on Sketchfab, thankfully it was free to use. Then, I needed Post Malone-esque assets. Think tattoos, clothes, maybe even a tiny microphone stand.
Modeling Mayhem
- Raptor Prep: Loaded the raptor model into Blender. Man, those polygons were rough. Spent a good chunk of time cleaning up the mesh, smoothing things out.
- Tattoo Time: This was the fun part. Found some decent tattoo textures online. Applied them strategically onto the raptor’s skin. Think barbed wire, portraits, the whole shebang. Had to UV unwrap the model, which was a total pain, but got there eventually.
- Wardrobe Woes: Tried to find some pre-made clothes models, but no luck. Ended up having to sculpt some simple clothing items myself: a ripped denim vest, some shorts. Kept it low-poly, didn’t want to kill my machine.
- Accessorizing: Added a tiny microphone stand. Couldn’t find a miniature one, so I scaled down a regular model. Looked kinda goofy, but it worked. Also added some chains and rings. Gotta have the bling.
Texturing and Painting
This is where things started to come together. Baked ambient occlusion maps to get some nice shadows. Then, used Substance Painter to add detail to the textures. Made the tattoos look worn, the clothes look ripped, the skin look scaly and menacing.
Posing and Lighting
Rigged the model using Blender’s automatic rigging tools. Messy, but it worked. Posed the raptor in a cool, rockstar stance. Set up some dramatic lighting in Blender’s Eevee renderer. Played around with different angles until I got something I liked.
Rendering and Final Touches
Rendered out the final image. Used a simple background. Did some minor color correction in Photoshop. Added a subtle vignette. And BAM! “post malone velociraptor” was born.
The Final Product
Honestly, it’s ridiculous. But I kinda love it. It’s stupid, fun, and exactly what I set out to create. Plus, I learned a bunch of new stuff about Blender and Substance Painter along the way. Would I do it again? Probably. What crazy idea should I tackle next?
