Alright, let me tell you about this bohemian style dress sketch I did. It was a whole process, man!

So, first things first, I had this image in my head, right? Flowy, kinda vintage-y, definitely bohemian. But getting that from my brain onto paper? That’s where the fun begins.
I started with the basic figure. Just a rough outline, you know? Stick figure-ish but with a little more shape. I wasn’t going for perfection, just a guide. Then, I started sketching the dress shape around it. Think A-line, but looser, more relaxed.
Next up: the details. This is where I really got into it. I wanted long, flowing sleeves – kinda bell-shaped. And some ruffles, because ruffles are always a good idea. I sketched those in lightly, just to get a feel for how they’d fall.
- The neckline was important too. I went for a scoop neck, not too low, but enough to show some skin.
- Then I added some details to the fabric. Little floral patterns, nothing too intricate, just enough to give it that bohemian vibe.
After that initial sketch, I started refining things. Darkening the lines I liked, erasing the ones I didn’t. I wanted the dress to look like it moved, so I added some subtle folds and creases in the fabric. It’s all about creating that sense of movement, you know?
Then came the shading. This is where it started to come to life. I used a soft pencil to add shadows, focusing on the areas where the fabric would naturally fold and crease. This gave the dress some depth and dimension.

I messed around with different pencils, you know? Some for darker lines, some for softer shading. It was a lot of trial and error, but that’s part of the process.
Finally, I added some finishing touches. A belt around the waist to cinch it in a bit, and some simple jewelry. A long necklace, maybe some bracelets. Just little details to complete the look.
And that was it! My bohemian style dress sketch. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It definitely captures that free-spirited, relaxed vibe I was going for.
It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a cool sketch to show off. Maybe I’ll even try to make the dress for real someday!
