Figuring Out the Red Shoe Dress Dilemma
Alright, let me tell you about this situation I had. I got myself a pair of really fantastic red shoes. Like, bright, stop-you-in-the-street red. Loved them instantly. But then reality hit: what kind of dress actually goes with these things? Stood in front of my closet just staring for what felt like an hour.
My Try-On Process
So, I decided the only way to figure this out was to just start trying stuff on. Pulled out a few dresses I thought might work.
First, I grabbed my go-to little black dress. You know, the LBD everyone says you need. Slipped it on, put on the red shoes. Looked in the mirror. Okay, yeah, it worked. Black goes with everything, right? It was fine. Safe. But honestly? A bit boring for these shoes. The shoes felt like they wanted more excitement, and the black dress just felt… meh. Predictable.
Next, I tried a white dress. Had this simple, sort of flowy white cotton dress. Put that on with the red shoes. Now THIS felt different. The red absolutely popped against the crisp white. It felt bright, summery, and fun. Definitely a strong possibility, especially for daytime or a sunny afternoon out. Liked this one a lot more.
Then I thought about darker colours again, but not black. Pulled out a navy blue dress I have, kind of a simple shift style. Put it on. Oh yeah. This was a winner. The navy was dark and sophisticated, but somehow softer than the black. The red shoes looked incredible against it – really rich and intentional. This combo felt chic but still bold. Definitely my favourite so far.
I even tried a patterned dress – had this black and white striped one. Put it on. Ehhh. This was less successful. It wasn’t awful, but the stripes and the bright red shoes felt like they were fighting for attention. Too busy. Maybe with a much simpler pattern, but this one was a no-go for me with these shoes.
What I Landed On
So after all that pulling dresses out and changing a bunch of times, here’s what I figured out works for me with bright red shoes:
- Navy Blue: This was my top pick. Looked amazing, felt classy but still made a statement. The contrast was just right.
- White: A close second, especially for warmer weather or daytime. Really fresh and lets the shoes be the star.
- Black: It works, it’s classic, can’t really go wrong. But for me, it just didn’t have the same wow factor as the navy or white. Felt a bit too expected.
- Maybe Neutral Tones?: I didn’t try it this time, but I bet something like a simple beige or camel dress could also look really chic and let the red shoes stand out. Mental note for next time.
Basically, I found that solid, classic colours seemed to work best. They let the bold red shoes do all the talking without competing too much. Navy and white were the clear winners in my little closet experiment. It really depends on the look you’re going for, but starting with those seems like a good bet.
