Okay, so I’ve been wanting to redo my bedroom for a while now. It was feeling kinda…blah. And definitely not very “me.” I wanted something that felt more masculine, more grown-up, but not like a dark, depressing cave, you know?

So, I started looking around for ideas, just browsing pictures, mostly. I quickly realized I was drawn to darker colors, but I was also worried about making the room feel too small. My room isn’t huge, to begin with.

First thing I did was grab some paint samples. Like, a LOT of paint samples. I think I had every shade of gray, blue, and even a few greens. I taped them up on the wall and just lived with them for a few days. It’s amazing how different colors look at different times of the day, and with different lighting.

Choosing the Right Color

After staring at those paint chips for what felt like forever, I narrowed it down to two: a deep, charcoal gray, and a really interesting navy blue with a hint of green in it. The gray felt very sophisticated, but the blue had this…vibe. It felt more unique.

  • Charcoal Gray: Safe, classic, definitely masculine.
  • Navy Blue (with green undertones): More daring, a bit more personality.

I ended up going with the navy blue. I figured, I could always repaint if I hated it, right? But I’m so glad I took the risk! I tested a larger area with a sample can. Don’t skip the test area. Paint a good square and check it out during different lights.

The Painting Process

Prep work is a pain, but SO important. I spent a whole day just cleaning the walls, filling in any holes, and taping off the trim. It’s boring, but it makes the actual painting so much easier, and the results are way better.

I used a good quality roller and brush. Cheaping out on tools is a mistake. Trust me. The paint went on so smoothly, and I only needed two coats to get full coverage.

The moment that last bit of wall was painted…man, it was awesome. The room instantly felt different. More put-together, more…me. The blue wasn’t too dark at all, especially with the white trim and ceiling. It actually made the room feel bigger, which was a surprise!

I finished it off by adding some new bedding, a few plants (gotta have some green!), and some simple artwork. Now my bedroom is a place that I actually look forward to going to bed in, instesd of feeling just so-so.
