Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get better at applying mascara to really make my eyelashes pop. It sounds simple, but I always end up with clumps or smudges. So, I decided to actually practice and figure out what works best. Here’s how it went down:

The Prep Work
First, I grabbed my eyelash curler. I used to skip this step, thinking it was unnecessary, but I’ve realized it makes a HUGE difference. I clamped it down at the base of my lashes, held it for a few seconds, and then moved it up a bit and clamped again. Instant lift!
Mascara Time
Next, I took out my mascara. I’ve been using the same one for a while, but I made sure it wasn’t too old or dried out. (Gross, clumpy mascara is the worst!) I carefully pulled the wand out of the tube, wiping off any excess on the rim. This is key to avoiding clumps, I’ve found.

I then looked into the mirror.
-
I started at the base of my upper lashes, wiggling the wand back and forth a little as I moved it upwards.
-
I repeated the motion until all the lashes.
-
I also try to avoid the mistakes that are easy to occur.
I applied a second coat, focusing on the outer corners of my eyes to give them a more dramatic look. For my lower lashes, I held the wand vertically and lightly brushed it across. This is way easier than trying to apply it horizontally, and it prevents smudging under my eyes.
The Finishing Touches
I looked closely in the mirror to see if there were any clumps. If I found any, I carefully used a clean lash comb to separate them. Finally, I used a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to clean up any smudges around my eyes. Done!
It took a few tries, and I definitely made some mistakes along the way (hello, raccoon eyes!), but I’m finally getting the hang of it. My lashes look longer, fuller, and way more defined. Practice makes perfect, right? I also found that different mascara has different effects.
