Okay, so I’ve been seeing “brat summer” all over my FYP, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” Turns out, it’s all about comfy, casual, kinda tomboy-ish looks. I’m kinda into it, so I decided to give it a shot and document my whole journey.
The Deep Dive (aka Pinterest Binge)
First, I hit up Pinterest. I just searched “brat summer outfits” and, oh boy, the rabbit hole opened up. I spent a good hour just scrolling, saving pins, and trying to figure out the general vibe. It seemed to be a mix of oversized tees, baggy shorts, sneakers, and baseball caps. Think ’90s, but make it 2024.
The Closet Raid
Next, I ransacked my own closet. I dug out all my old oversized band tees (thank you, high school me!), some baggy cargo shorts I almost forgot I owned, and a few pairs of well-loved sneakers. I also found a couple of baseball caps that were hiding in the back. Score!
The Experimentation Phase
This is where the fun (and the mess) began. I started trying on different combos. Some were total fails, like that one time I paired a super bright tee with camo shorts – yikes! But others were surprisingly cute.
- Outfit 1: Oversized Nirvana tee, black biker shorts, white chunky sneakers, and a black baseball cap. This one felt the most “me” so far.
- Outfit 2: Grey graphic tee (slightly cropped), baggy denim shorts, high-top Converse, and a backwards baseball cap. Kinda edgy, I liked it.
- Outfit 3: Plain white oversized tee, khaki cargo shorts, white Adidas sneakers. Super simple, but perfect for a hot day.
The Accessorizing
I am a simple girl and I just don’t have many accessories. So I don’t wear any rings or necklaces and I just grabbed a simple backpack.
The Verdict
Okay, so after a few days of rocking these “brat summer” outfits, I’m officially a convert. It’s comfy, it’s easy, and it’s kinda fun to channel my inner ’90s kid. I think my favorite combo is the Nirvana tee with the biker shorts – it just feels effortlessly cool. I might even try adding some tube socks to the mix next time.
Overall it is a super easy outfit style, might not be the most fashion one, but the easy one.
