Blonde and Brown Hair Color Trend: How to Rock It in Style?

by Afra Jennings

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to switch up my hair for a while, and I finally took the plunge! I’ve always been curious about how I’d look with a mix of blonde and brown, so I thought, “Why not?” Let me walk you through what I did.

Getting Started

First, I gathered all my supplies. I’m not a professional, so this was all DIY. I got:

  • A box of blonde hair dye (I picked a light ash blonde).
  • Some brown hair dye (a medium chocolate shade).
  • A couple of hair dye brushes.
  • Gloves (very important!).
  • An old towel.
  • Vaseline, apply along the hairline to avoid staining the skin.
  • Clips to section my hair.

The Dyeing Process

I started by sectioning my hair. The idea was to have some strands blonde and some brown, creating a sort of highlighted, mixed effect. I used the clips to separate the parts I wanted to dye blonde from the rest.

Next, I mixed the blonde dye according to the box instructions. With my gloves on, I carefully applied the dye to the selected strands, making sure they were fully covered. I am not a professional stylist. I use foil to wrap each part individually.

After the blonde dye was in, I waited for about 20 minutes. I checked the color periodically to make sure it wasn’t getting too light. The instructions suggest waiting for 30-45 minutes. But I found that 20 minutes gave the ashy tone I wanted.

Then, I carefully apply brown dye to the remaining strands of hair, making sure not to overlap the colors too much. Then I also waited for about 25 minutes.

The Big Reveal

Once the time was up, I rinsed my hair thoroughly with cool water. I used a color-safe shampoo and conditioner to help protect the dye. I am also rinsed off the Vaseline. I didn’t used a hair dryer to dry it before seeing the effect.

I dried my hair with the old towel and finally looked in the mirror. The result? Pretty cool, I think! It’s a fun, textured look with the light blonde and chocolate brown playing off each other. It’s not perfect, since I’m not a pro, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.

It’s definitely a change, and it feels good to have tried something new. If you’re thinking about mixing up your hair color, I’d say go for it! Just be prepared, do your research, and have fun with it.
