Okay, so I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect sling backpack. You know, something cute, but also practical enough to actually use. I’m not about those tiny bags that can barely fit a phone, but I also don’t want a giant backpack weighing me down. I wanted something in between, especially for, like, day trips and stuff.

I started by, like, just browsing around. Looking at different stores, seeing what styles were out there. I quickly realized there are a ton of options. It was a little overwhelming, to be honest. I saw so many different materials, sizes, and, of course, price ranges.
I really wanted something durable. I’m kind of clumsy, and I tend to be rough on my bags. So, I knew flimsy materials were a no-go. I spent a good chunk of time just feeling different bags, checking the stitching, and that kind of stuff. You can tell a lot just by touching it, you know?
Then I started thinking about pockets. How many did I really need? I knew I wanted at least one main compartment, big enough for a water bottle, maybe a small book, and my wallet. And then some smaller pockets for things like my phone, keys, and lip balm. Gotta have easy access to the lip balm!
- Main compartment: check.
- Smaller pockets: check.
- Durable material: …still working on that…
I also thought a little about the strap. Some of them looked really uncomfortable, like they’d dig into my shoulder. I knew I needed something padded, and adjustable, because I’m pretty short. I tried a few on in the store, walking around a bit to get a feel for them. It’s kind of awkward, but way better than ending up with a bag that hurts to wear.
I’ve noticed many different styles of the sling bags. Some are designed more for everyday use, while others are clearly for hiking, and some are just for pure fashion. It also became a key point I need to keep in mind.

My Choices
After doing a lot of looking around, I narrowed it down to a few that I liked. They were all made of either canvas or some kind of water-resistant nylon, which seemed pretty sturdy. They all had enough pockets, and the straps looked comfortable enough.
After weighing up the pros and cons of each one, I finally decided to go for it and get one! It’s a water-resistant nylon one, in a nice, neutral color. It has a surprisingly roomy main compartment, a couple of smaller pockets on the front, and even a hidden pocket on the back, which is perfect for my phone or passport when I’m traveling. Most importantly, it feels super comfortable, even when it’s full. It’s really a success!
