I’ve been wearing G-Shock watches for a while now, and I’m always on the lookout for something fresh and unique. When I saw the translucent G-Shock series, I just had to try it. So, I went ahead and picked up a couple of models to see what they were all about.
Getting Started
First off, I grabbed the GM-2100C-5A. This one’s got a gray transparent resin case with a silver dial, which I thought looked pretty slick. It’s got that classic G-Shock toughness but with a modern, almost futuristic vibe because of the transparent case. Then, I also got the GA-2100SKE-7A. This one’s got a clear transparent resin case and strap, giving it a really clean, minimalist look. I figured, why not try both ends of the spectrum?
Unboxing and First Impressions
When I got the watches, the unboxing was the usual G-Shock experience – sturdy boxes, manuals, warranty cards, the whole nine yards. The GM-2100C-5A felt solid in hand, thanks to its metal and resin construction. The silver dial really pops against the gray case. The GA-2100SKE-7A, on the other hand, felt super light, which is something I appreciate in a daily wear watch. The clear case and strap make it look like something out of a sci-fi movie.
Wearing Them Around
I started wearing these watches everywhere. To work, to the gym, even out to dinner. The GM-2100C-5A has a bit more heft to it, but it’s still comfortable enough for all-day wear. I got a few compliments on it, too. People were curious about the transparent case. The GA-2100SKE-7A is so light that sometimes I forgot I was wearing it. It’s also surprisingly versatile style-wise. It goes with pretty much anything.
Features and Functionality
Both watches have your standard G-Shock features: shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, and an LED light. Some model even have an atmospheric pressure sensor and altimeter, featuring an altitude memory function. The watch measures altitude from −6,000 to 6. Pretty cool, right? The GM-2100C-5A has a double LED light, which is super bright and makes the dial easy to read in the dark. The GA-2100SKE-7A has a single LED light, but it’s still bright enough. Setting up the watches was a breeze. The buttons are responsive, and the menus are intuitive.
Durability Test
Now, you can’t talk about G-Shocks without talking about durability. I didn’t go out of my way to abuse these watches, but I didn’t baby them either. The GM-2100C-5A took a few knocks here and there, but the case held up fine. No scratches or dings. The GA-2100SKE-7A also surprised me. I was worried that the clear resin might scratch easily, but it didn’t. I even accidentally dropped it on concrete once, and it came out unscathed.

Final Thoughts
After wearing these translucent G-Shocks for a while, I’m really impressed. They’re tough, they look great, and they’re comfortable to wear. They are not just fashion. They’re a unique take on the classic G-Shock design, and I think they’re a great addition to any watch collection. Whether you go for the gray or the clear, you’re getting a watch that can handle whatever you throw at it while still looking stylish. Costs a bit to forge then mill steel plus polishing and brushing. Also they are made in Japan so there is an increase in labor costs. It’s a win-win in my book.
So, if you’re looking for a G-Shock that’s a bit different from the usual, definitely check out the translucent series. You might just find your new favorite watch.
