Well, let me tell you somethin’ about them 1980s clothes, especially what that Janet Jackson gal used to wear. Them clothes, they were somethin’ else, let me tell ya! Folks these days, they wear all sorts of things, but back then, it was different, real different.
Them Colors, Oh Lord, Them Colors! First off, everything was bright, real bright. Like, you know, those bright greens and pinks and yellows? They called ’em neon, I think. And they didn’t just wear one bright color, no sir! They’d put two, three bright colors together! Sometimes, they’d wear a bright color with black or white, but mostly, it was all bright, all the time. Like a rainbow exploded all over ya! And them shoulder pads! Lord have mercy, the shoulder pads were HUGE. Made everyone look like they were ready to play football or somethin’. You coulda knocked someone out with them things, I swear.
- Bright colors, lots of ’em
- Big, big shoulder pads
- Leg warmers, even when it wasn’t cold!
And them leg warmers! Don’t even get me started on them leg warmers. They wore ’em with everything! Skirts, pants, even shorts sometimes. I never understood that. It wasn’t even cold half the time! But they wore ’em, all scrunched up around their ankles. And pink! So much pink! Janet, she wore a lot of pink, I think. And pearls, ruffles, all that fancy stuff on her shirts. And them jackets! “Members Only” jackets, they called ’em. Everybody had to have one.
Jeans and High Heels, That’s What They Liked! And jeans, they wore jeans a lot, but always with high heels. Can you imagine? Workin’ in the fields all day in high heels? My feet would be killin’ me! But them city gals, they wore ’em everywhere. And them jumpsuits! Like a whole outfit all in one piece. Looked kinda like pajamas to me, but hey, what do I know? I’m just an old woman.
Now, some folks say Janet, she liked that military look too. You know, like army hats and stuff. I guess it was the style back then. Everything was big and bold. Big hair, big shoulders, big colors. Even them accessories, they were big and bold. Big earrings, big necklaces, big everything!
Making Them Clothes Yourself, That’s What I Did! Sometimes, I’d try to make some of them clothes myself. You know, take an old jacket and paint on it, or sew some things on. I even used that carpet stuff, that grippy stuff, to make things. And rope, and pins, anything I could find. I wasn’t gonna spend my hard-earned money on them fancy store clothes, no sir! I’d take a man’s blazer and cut it up, paint a lightning bolt on it, and stick it back together. Looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.
Janet, She Changed Her Style Later On. But Janet, she didn’t stick with that 80s look forever. She changed it up later on, got a little more… I don’t know… provocative, I guess you could say. But back in the 80s, she was all about them bright colors and big shoulders. And she looked good, real good. Even if them clothes were a little crazy sometimes.
So, that’s what I remember about them 1980s outfits, especially Janet Jackson’s. Bold colors, big shoulders, lots of pink, jeans and high heels. And don’t forget them leg warmers! It was a wild time for fashion, that’s for sure. Makes me tired just thinkin’ about it all.
And Today’s Clothes? Well, They’re Different. Now, the clothes these days, they’re different. Sleeker, they call it. Not so much color, not so much… everything. But every now and then, I see a young gal wearin’ somethin’ that reminds me of the 80s, and I smile. It was a fun time, even if the clothes were a little… much. And Janet, she was right there in the middle of it all, wearin’ them crazy clothes and singin’ her heart out.
So, If You Wanna Dress Like Janet from the 80s… If you wanna dress like Janet from the 80s, you gotta go big and bold. Bright colors, big shoulders, lots of accessories. And don’t be afraid to mix and match. The crazier, the better! That’s what the 80s were all about, and Janet, she knew how to do it right.
